WHO WE ARE

We are the official data repository to the state government, hosting government data from over 28 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The Edo State information communication technology agency (ICTA) champions the state’s Open Data initiative (www.opendata.edostate.gov.ng) and is poised towards enabling citizen’s participation in governance, promoting an open system of government which entrenches trust, accountability and openness through the release and use of government data.

ABOUT US

As an arm of the ICT Agency, we became functional in 2013 with the adoption, launch and implementation of the Open Data initiative by the Edo State government with support from the World Bank. Our aim is to have the open data instilled into the activities of the MDA’S in the state thus having an open government. Our open data portal (www.data.edostate.gov.ng) was launched in September 2013, by this launch we becamethe first Sub-National Government to operationalize the initiative in Western Africa. Since its launch, the portal has hosted 188 data-sets obtained from the various MDA’s in the state. It has received more than 74,000 page views, 14,000 users and 5,000 visitors from 140 countries. As the data repository for the state government, we believe its information will help drive transparency and encourage innovation, both of which will further accelerate Edo’s social and economic development.

Our well-defined work flow process alongside our focal person representatives had made it possible to have these datasets obtained from these datasets obtained from the MDA’S. Focal persons are intermediaries between MDA’s and the Open Data Teams.
